HOLY CROSS COLLEGE (AUTONOMOUS), TIRUCHIRAPPALLI - A Report.
Rejoice always, pray continually give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16.)
Overwhelmed by His enormous blessings, the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod along with the Staff and Students of Holy Cross College, Tiruchirappalli thanked our Lord for the journey of hundred years and for His great gift of Mother Sophie, the Foundress who had been the source of inspiration for the inception of this institution with the noble intention of giving Education to the poor young girls. The college is proud to have crossed an important milestone in its quest for spiritual depth and academic excellence. In commemoration of the Centennial Year (1923-2023), Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli, celebrated “Thanksgiving Eucharist” and the Release of “Special Cover & Corporate My Stamp” on 29.03.2023 (Wednesday) at 10.00 a.m, in the College Grounds.
It was solemnized by His Eminence Cardinal Rt. Rev. Dr. Anthony Poola, Archbishop of Hyderabad, His Grace Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Kalist, Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore, His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Arokiaraj Savarimuthu, Bishop of Tiruchirappalli, and His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Antony Bishop of Tuticorin. A good number of Priests, Religious Sisters, Distinguished guests, Teaching faculty, Administrative staff, Benefactors, Alumnae, and Students were present for the thanksgiving Holy Eucharist. The distinguished guests were given a traditional welcome as they entered in a procession to the college grounds, where the entrance was decked as Heaven’s Gate with students dressed as Angels. The unique achievements accomplished during the ten decades and the college’s milestones were highlighted in the introduction. In commemoration of the centennial year, 100 students’ performed a semi-classical dance. The symbolic offertory was formed in the shape of the Centenary Logo. In order to honour the people who contributed to the progress and expansion of the college, the lamps were carried by the Sisters of the Cross, Lay Associates, Retired Staff, Alumnae, Benefactors, Deans, Teaching Staff, Parents, students, Representatives of Service-oriented courses, Fine Arts, Sports and Administrative staff.
In his inspiring homily, His Eminence Cardinal Anthony Poola, Archbishop of Hyderabad, appreciated the vision of the Sisters of the Cross when it was unthinkable to educate girl children. He highlighted the motto of the College ‘Truth and Charity’, which is challenging, as truth affects one’s relationship with oneself while charity affects one’s relationship with others. He underlined the readings Sirach (50:22-24, 1Cor. 1:3-9) which reminds one of God’s mercy and faithfulness for which one is immensely grateful, and the gospel theme vine and the branches (JN:15:1-9) beckons one’s connectedness to God which bears much fruit. Hence Jubilee is a time to remember, review and restore (Leviticus 25:11-12). The Mass concluded with hearts filled with gratitude to God, invoking His blessings of love, and for its fruitfulness in the future. In commemoration of the centennial year, a special programme was arranged at 12.30 p .m to release the Special Cover and Corporate My Stamp, which was released by Thiru Appa Kannu Govindharajan, IPoS, Postmaster General, Central Region, Trichy, and received by His Eminence Cardinal Anthony Poola, Archbishop of Hyderabad. Rev. Sr. Dr. Christina Bridget, Principal, highlighted the significance of the release wherein she emphasized the LOGO. The Cross embodies God’s redemptive power, the number 100 represents the years of devoted service and a lotus signifies the institution's pristine purity and grandeur.
In their felicitation, the Bishops, gratefully valued the splendid achievements, the initiatives and the successful contributions made to society by the College. The Postmaster General, Tiruchirappalli applauded the stupendous accomplishments of Holy Cross College. The Presidential address was delivered by His Eminence Anthony Poola, Cardinal, Archbishop of Hyderabad. He blessed the institution for its uniqueness, creativity, and future endeavours. He was wonder-struck at the simple life of Mother Claudine the Foundress of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Cross, who moved from 0 to 1, by being the master of her destiny, relentlessly exploring the vistas of life and persevering in her vision. He wished the College to begin anew, and move beyond the impossible. The students of Holy Cross College enthralled the gathering through their graceful dance performances of 15 countries, where the Sisters of the Cross are present. The programme had a remarkable finale with a vote of thanks offered by the Principal of the College, followed by the National Anthem. Having such as illustrious tradition to support it, Holy Cross College looks ahead with a future vision, not just to rest on its past laurels but to embellish the past and achieve its best for the wellbeing of the student community, the institution, and society at large.
